The 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was Skyler White's car.
The Wagoneer, renamed Grand Wagoneer in 1984, was the first luxury 4×4, and was produced from 1963 to 1991. An SUV (sport utility vehicle) long before the term was coined, the [Grand] Wagoneer saw only minor mechanical changes during its 28-year production run, the third longest in US automotive history.
Since going out of production, good condition [Grand] Wagoneers have become sought after, with a low-mileage 1989 model worth around $120,000 (2023).

Set in Albuquerque, Breaking Bad spotlights Walter White, a teacher who learns about his stage-three lung cancer diagnosis. It's terminal, and he decides to make meth with student Jesse Pinkman to ensure his family can pay the bills following his death. To disguise his activities, Walter goes by the name "Heisenberg." He makes small amounts of meth in a lab at the beginning. As the show progresses, sales of Walter's particular blue meth rise. Eventually, Walter clashes with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The show begins in the year 2008, and Skyler is unaware of Walter's secret at that point. Skyler, Walter's wife, has a son with cerebral palsy and a daughter. In addition to being a writer, she works as a bookkeeper for the firm Beneke Fabricators. She also happens to drive a pretty cool Jeep. In the fifth season, Skyler starts driving a Ford Edge.
We'd say we're surprised with Skyler's vehicle of choice, but that would be a lie. The appearance and performance of the Grand Wagoneer make this car distinct. It was praised as the first luxurious four-wheel-drive car. The Grand Wagoneer was perfect for overcoming rough terrain. All-around leaf springs bent when the car's axle moved and ensured that tires were lined up with the street. For a four-wheel-drive car like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the all-around leaf springs were a wonderful feature to have when the driver wanted to haul heavy equipment. Low range guaranteed that the car can conquer sand, snow, and mud. The Grand Wagoneer was prepared for any obstacle, as difficult terrain left this car unfazed.
The Wagoneer debuted in 1962 and was discontinued in 1991. The Grand Wagoneer was launched in 1984. After reviewing the 1991 model, we can say that the final years were the most remarkable ones for the Grand Wagoneer. To begin, the car had a 36o cubic-inch petrol V8 engine, solidifying its reliable status of navigating difficult roads without issues. 1991 also saw a variety of improvements, including a more spacious interior and a trimmed finish.
However, it breaks our heart to report some disappointing figures. Gas mileage was only 11 in the city and 13 on the highway. The V8 engine could only generate 144 horsepower.
The 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was up for auction on the site ScreenBid.com in 2013, and the starting price was $7,125. According to MotorTrend, Sony Pictures Entertainment confirmed that this was the genuine car used in Breaking Bad. Yes, the announcement was exciting for those who loved the show and were interested in getting the vehicle that frequently appeared in episodes. But the website did warn car enthusiasts that this Grand Wagoneer needed several modifications. The auction description said that, "The Jeep runs and drives, but leaks oil and has some paint bubbling and chipping."
The car sold on October 8, 2013, for $11,250. The website did not disclose the name of the person who bought the car.
It's evident that the Wagoneer had an amazing run between 1962 and 1991, but there are also promising hints that this car may return. In 2019, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles assessed a Wagoneer using a RAM 1500 body. In September 2020, Jeep unveiled images of a Grand Wagoneer concept on their website. While the company did not reveal a release date yet, there is information about this model that proves it's worth getting excited about this resurgence. The concept vehicle has a full-length single-pane glass roof, LED lighting, and 24-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, there's a 12.1-inch touchscreen.
Overall, Skyler selected a car that was versatile and innovative. The Grand Wagoneer was unparalleled, as the 4x4 vehicle had the critical components of a successful off-roader but looked like a station wagon. Skyler could stay untroubled as she drove during winter weather or on uneven roads. After its appearance in the entertainment world, the 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was auctioned off online. But the reveal of a concept design earlier this year demonstrates how Breaking Bad fans-and those who adore Jeep-have a beautiful reason to get excited: Maybe someday in the future, they can drive this revival of Skyler's beloved car.
